My boyfriend's birthday gift from me was a unspecified trip, and this weekend we're realizing it! He still doesn't know where we're going (Berlin!) but he will be forced to bring sunglasses and his iPod shuffle on the plane in order to keep it a secret as long as possible. I'm excited! Today I went to Louisiana Museum of Modern Art to see their summer exhibition Green Architecture for the Future which by the way is highly recommendable if you, like me, have an interest in architecture and city planning. However, I also had a peek at the museum's new acquisitions, and among others there was a gorgeous, abstract piece by Julie Mehretu. I love its visual layering and how it challenges the eye and its impressive size just adds to the madness. Of course I went home to research and personally I think her other works are no less gorgeous.

I'm such a terrible blogger. And I know this is such a lousy way to start an entry, but I just wanted tell that yes, I'm fully aware! The reason for starting this blog in the first place was the possibility it gives me to express myself in a different way than I do in my everyday life. It's about things that I've experienced and cherish, things that inspire me in relation to how I dress, how I live, how I think. And it's only when I feel like it. That some people want to read along is just a bonus, though the few readers I have are highly, highly appreciated.

But to pick up from where I left last time, I guess happiness did hit me like a train on track. So did exams. And in the middle of this lovely mess of spring happiness and exam stress I simply lost both time and inspiration to blog. Now, relaxing on the terrasse in Southern France it doesn't seem so foreign to me anymore. Practically everybody is at Roskilde right now but considering my situation right now I much prefer this. And let me tell you this: so much has happened sinc last time - yet again. There's now less than two months left until I'm leaving for Washington, DC (and I'm literally up to my neck in tedious paperwork). Afterwards I've planned an around-the-world trip including stays in Taiwan, Vietnam, Thailand and Turkey (looking for insider tips, especially for Taiwan and Turkey seeing those stays aren't planned in detail - if you have any suggestions, I would be thrilled to hear them!).

And of course there are also tons of photographs I want to show you. The pictures in this post are from my last vacation.. My boyfriend and I went on a long weekend to Munich and it was such a wonderful trip we had. The city is truly endearing and so diverse in terms of what the city has to offer.. We saw Bayern München play in the Allianz Arena, ate in a Michelin star restaurant called Königshof, tried on traditional German costumes in a shopping mall, went to the farmers market Viktualienmarkt, visited the Maggi and Gucci flagship store (both ridiculous), ate absurd volumes of cake for breakfast at Starbucks and Bavarian sausages for lunch, had the largest dessert I've seen in my entire life and in between we went for long walks in a city filled up with beautiful green areas and quirky architecture. What's not to love? What I also just adore about this post is how it shows me in two rather untraditional outfits. Just don't count on seeing me sporting either of those again.

Almost, that is. And mainly due to the fact that the picture above is what my bathroom looks like at the moment. A leakage in the shower had to be fixed so I haven't been able to live chez moi for almost 2 months now. Therefore I've been living here and there and haven't had the time nor energy to blog. On a bit of a different note, I just returned from Southern France and this time I revisited the beautiful villages of Èze Village and Villefrance-sur-Mer where I took these pictures, I wanted to share with you. I hope you are all well and I will try to post more often as well.

Plenty of things happened since the last time I checked in. Actually, more than plenty. The Kirkwoods had their first outfing. So did my ugly winter boots - at least their first (and hopefully only) this winter. I payed IKEA yet another visit and I finished decorating my apartment. Now it's just perfect and exactly the way I want it to be. Also, I got a television (Big deal! However, it still isn't properly installed). And a boyfriend. And tomorrow morning a new washer as well. Finally, I got accepted to the Washington Semester Program for next fall semester. And within the next 10 days I have to finish a seminar on risk management for my corporate finance class so I will probably not be updating again before then. But at least you know I'm alive. Photographic evidence below.

Do you guys also have favorite searches on eBay? The first thing I type in is always "Chloe clutch" (and I must admit it kind of bothers me that you have to omit the accent aigu in Chloé. If I hadn't it would have saved me a lot of money). However, at the moment I'm trying to break the habit and avoid eBay altogether since the cash level is low. But yesterday I accidently entered the website of temptation and this beautiful clutch came up. I can't say I'm a huge Chloé fan anymore but I love what Phoebe Philo did for the house (it's going to be interesting to see if she can manage to give Céline a revival).. And one of my most treasured wardrobe pieces is a black/gold clutch with green pearl embroidery from the Philo era. Now it has company. At the price of $78 I couldn't resist.

..I want to go there! It was the perfect new year for a while and now it's already turned into a bit of a mess, but I do think I will love how things are going to turn out in the end. I just need to adjust to the thought of everything being different from what I had imagined first. I have quite an impatient nature and I'm not very good with waiting for time to come up with answers to current conundrums. But I know I'll have to. So while time is passing, I'm dreaming about going far, far away. Because for now, I just want some peace and quiet.. Some physical and mental space so that I can pick up myself and get some structure and focus back into my life again. This is a selection of where I'd do that.. in a perfect world.

Post-exam Escapades

I had the most fun I've had in a really long while this past weekend. It started with my Fendi brother and his camera flying in from Amsterdam. Then there was fine dining and divine wine. Dancing on ice. A playground by night. Cocktails and Chloé ad campaign rip-offs. Thomas Vinterberg. Hotdogs. Jumping in bed to the sound of Britney Spears. And a lazy Sunday in bed with Oprah, Victoria Beckham, Hard(-o) Gay and tons of food. It simply does not get better than that.

As you all know tonight is New Year's Eve and I should actually be getting ready just about now, but first I think I owe a short status update.. Since I came back from France on 28th I've been studying like a maniac for my exams which are in a few days only - therefore the lack of posts. However, I hope you have all passé de bonnes fêtes. I have. And I think tonight will be fabulous, too. Just a laidback dinner among old and new friends. The perfect way to end the year if you ask me. All in all, I must admit that 2008 has not been the easiest year for me though I've had some great times and made many new friends. But I also feel completely sure that 2009 will be different. Better. I'm eyeing so many new adventures to experience. I cannot wait! Unfortuantely I don't have the time just now to make the rounds to all the blogs, that I'm usually following, but still I'd like to wish each and every one of you.. those I know and those who are just reading along.. a very happy 2009 and thank you for the past year. I should have been studying for my statistics exam tomorrow. But today I haven't (yet! it's only 10pm, the night is young.. I guess) - I've been baking madeleines. Referred to as "mussel cookies" by not-so-francophile friends. I made two kinds: a new kind (to me) with lots of different spices and then the classic vanilla/ lemon ones. I can't decide which ones are better. For a day of procrastination, I say try both (and then count on that the sugar rush of eating them for breakfast the next day will take you safely through your statistics exam)..

Tea cans that used to be my grandmother's that I was always highly fascinated with as a child and some old toys and children's books of mine. And yes, there were actually still some pez candy left in those dispensers (I'm sure their taste wouldn't have changed much, though).

..it's Lucia day! I reckon it's one of the stranger traditions we have here in Scandinavia. Actually it's originally a Swedish tradition which was formed to mark the night between the 12th and the 13th which is the "longest" of the year. In the morning the young girls would get up while it was still dark and serve breakfast wearing this crown of lit candles. That's however not how we celebrate here in Denmark. Instead we have processions of girls wearing the candle crown while singing.

Maria from Mode Med Mere already came up with some beautiful lucia styling suggestions. Let me say, I was nowhere this chic when I was lucia bride about 8 years ago.

..I finished the second heat of the race that is apartment decorating. I guess it's about time seeing I moved in almost half a year ago but seriously, I haven't really had the time to fix all the little details. And there's a third heat as well.. It involves finding some better alternatives for the walls.. And proper lighting. If you guys have any ideas I'm all ears!

And I just realized how many flowers I actually have in my flat just now. Really, I'm not good with plants, I don't bring things into my apartment that cannot take care of themselves. It's my mother who smuggled them in here (except for the orchids, they are so low-maintenance I can manage to not kill them within a few weeks)..

A wishlist!.. A wishlist? I don't really do that. To be honest, I was never really a fan of this concept. I have people asking for my wishes constantly at the moment, seeing that my birthday is just around the corner and well, so is Christmas. The reason that I'm really not good with wishlists is because I don't feel very comfortable with people giving me something because they feel like they should. If anyone gives me a present, it should be because they really want to and because there's a bit more thought behind. At least that's what I always opt for when I give out presents.

But of course I always manage to construct a wishlist containing lots of dull things like newspaper subscriptions, nail polish, kitchen tools and the occasional electronical device. However, I also have a wishlist, that I keep to myself. Things I'd love to own but would never even consider asking other people to buy me. Like a Chanel bag (something I've actually promised to endow myself with once I finish my bachelor's degree) or a piece of Rick Owens outerwear. You know, all the almost utopian wishes that didn't quite make it to the wishlist with the things which are actually utopian. Like photographic memory, a time machine, a speedy metabolism, the ability to wear leggings without looking like a fool, Radiohead playing in my backyard, a backyard... As for the other pieces, if I really want them, I'll find a way get my hands on them.. and by the way, I think that applies not only to clothes-purchasing but most other things in life as well..

Those things are very high on my list at the moment. So, what are you guys wishing for this year? And giving out? I'm having a very low-key Christmas.. As a matter of fact, I'm going to France and it will just be me and my parents and then my aunt will join us on the 25th. Besides, we decided to just give each other one small gift. I'm giving my parents two photoalbums which I've made myself. One from a trip to Malaysia a few years ago (my mom thought the pictures were lost but I found them just recently) and then our recent trip to Japan.

The quite kitsch-y Christmas decoration my mother gave me a while ago doesn't think so either (I'm making up for lost time tonight though - I'm down to the 4th already!).. And here's something not related to Christmas.. Because somewhere between red and blue I lost my heart a while ago. It's still a mystery to me how it happened as I never felt that strongly about this shade but I've really found myself attracted to it as of lately. Or well, my inspiration folder has always been stuffed with purple hues but I never really managed to apply it to real life. Nevertheless, the last two dresses I've bought have been purple and I'm loving them. I'm thinking I will try to experiment with makeup as well. It can look extremely beautiful though I guess it's a bit harder to pull off.

DIY Christmas editorial:
It's actually quite simple and goes something like this.. Dress up and go out to dinner and cocktails with a good friend. Have lots of cocktails. After a night of fun, realize it would be fun to play with your neighbor's ugly Christmas decoration (I'd really like to state that I am in no way related to that thing). Take pictures. Done!

This was actually last year, I should add. But there'll definitely be a sequel seeing how incredibly ugly the Christmas décor in my new building is this year.

If there's something I really love about Christmas time it's probably the excuse one has to overindulge in things they otherwise don't. Like cookies. And chocolate truffles. I and two friends from university are forming a tradition (going on 2nd year now, woohoo) where we take out a day from our otherwise busy schedules and release our inner domestic goddesses. This year we spent a whole 20 hours in the kitchen. There was no sleep but many a cup of coffee involved. And we had a blast. We made the Danish classics such as vaniljekranse and specier. Then there were Smitten Kitchen's peanutbutter cookies and salted oatmeal and white chocolate cookies. And the chocolate espresso ones. Then lemon and chocolate truffles and havregrynskugler (the latter are already all gone.. have no idea where they went really.. hey!.. don't look at me!).. The part that is truly fun is the shaping and decorating part, though. A dinosaur to go anyone?

Countdowns.. I love countdowns.. So much I decided to do one myself. Actually we're not really celebrating Christmas chez moi this year (we're going to Côte d'Azur instead) but I still love everything that comes with it.. There's nothing better than cosy December atmosphere.. All the lights, the tacky music, the fattening food.. and all the happy people. Well, I just saw it's been a while since I posted an editorial and this one definitely has a Christmas-y mood, so what better way to start off December with? It's pretty much ancient (in fashion years) but it's shot by one of my favorite Danish photographers (not that there are a lot), Signe Vilstrup. Makes me want to get light chains as well!

Winter's here! It has always been one of my favorite seasons, but in one particular way definitely not. Somehow, every single year, I end up jumping from dry spot to dry spot between the floods of snows in my ballet flats. The perfect boots and I have been playing hide-and-seek since forever (obviously I'm always it).. I'm almost sure that my body temperature is 2 celcius degrees lower than usual during the cold months. What's to say? Winter clothes and I.. Well, we just never really hit it off. Boots and thick knits and coats.. The chemistry between us was just never there.

Why? I'm actually not quite sure. It just feels wrong (I used to have the same thing with black shoes.. it was just wrong when they were on my feet.. Sometimes it still is).. I guess that would categorize me as an emotional dresser? But honestly, I just hate how I feel like I have to compromise me and my style to stay warm. Yes, I do own boots and heavy coats but I feel so unrefined and michelin man-like whenever I walk outside in cold-proof outfits.

And the funny thing? I actually think winter attires can look amazing. Some people really know how to assemble an outfit beautifully with lots of layers and different materials. Below, a small selection of picture proof thereof. And I love all of these picks and sincerely wish I could dress like that. I just cannot imagine me wearing it. It's strange, aint it?

However, I do have my eye on this Margiela coat but I'm still considering if whether or not I should actually press buy. As for boots, I'm clueless. Anyone who has any fabulous ideas for somebody with sz. huge feet (1o) and a strong boot-aversion to overwin? I know, I'm difficult (all this talks for a exchange at a university in Singapore for my 3rd year, though. I'll put it on my con-list right away).

Final question: How do you stand the cold? Anyone with me on this one or do you, like half the Danish population, gladly put on your boots as soon as the temperature dives below 15 celcius?

Different kind of layering

Honestly, I'm not a tent kind of girl and I don't think I ever will be.. but this idea, I must admit, is simply terrific. I was just browsing Cristobal Palma's photography when I fell across this project called Wall House by FAR Frohn&Rojas Architects. It's constructed in Santiago, Chile in 2007 and the whole idea is that the construction is based on four different layers.. A concrete and cave-like core, then a circle of shelving, after that a polycarbonate layer and finally a fabric membrane. Can I have someone set this up for me at Roskilde next summer? Pretty please?

Some people consider this art. Some categorize it as a time-killing activity. I'm not quite sure what my verdict is but it's awesome either way. Danielle Aubert has been killing time in Excel for 58 days of which the results can be seen in her project appropriately named 58 Days Worth of Drawing Exercises in Microsoft Excel as Rendered for Web. Do have look, it's excellent (no pun intended)!

I never wear heels to classes but today was the exception to the rule. Or let me rephrase: when I receive fabulous, new shoes that I fall deeply in love with, there is an exception to the rule. Honestly, I wore this to my mom's birthday last night and I couldn't be bothered to bring flat shoes to change with (the usual shoe space was occupied by a small Prada purse to have with me during the dinner).. But fortunately (and surprisingly!) these shoes are extremely comfy. I could run a marathon in them (if it wasn't for my poor physical shape that is).

During my travel I found that one of the cute, little differences between Denmark and Japan is how they like to present their food. For instance I love how they always include lots of colors in every single meal no matter where and what you eat. And in front of the majority of restaurants you find charming plastic presentations of the dishes found on the menu (plastic food is quite an industry out there, I later found out). And on our first trip by train from Tokyo to Takayama already at the station, we quickly found out how popular bento boxes were: the bento stalls were counting almost as many as soft drink vending machines! Once on board shinkansen, seeing how delicious our fellow passengers' lunches were looking, of course we had to try it as well - quite a success!

Later on, in Osaka, I fell across this little book dedicated to bento boxes only and of course I had to have it. It's filled with tons of ways to assemble a bento and the images are so alluring and mouthwatering. Of course, right after buying the book, I bought a cute, little box for myself, too! I've rarely been this proud of myself! As earlier mentioned I had decided to make one of my good friends a cake for his birthday which is today. I'm hardly a domestic goddess but this turned out so well. I opted for a soccer theme since he's quite taken with that and especially Manchester United (we all have our own flaws, right?) - fortunately I had another really good friend helping me drawing up the liquorice field lines correctly.

On a completely different note, I just wanted to say thanks to all of you readers out there who visit my humble blog. Both those who leave comments and those of you who don't (even though it's always interesting to see who's reading).. I was only wondering one thing, is there anything you would like to see more of? Less of? I'd love to here your thoughts and ideas!

You think I'd go all the way to Japan to not shop? I don't think so! I'm still in complete awe of the selection in well, everything you can possibly imagine. And just as exciting, actually witnessing the matching buying power - especially in these troubled times, actually it didn't seem that the customers could be bothered thinking about financial meltdown at all. Life's too short and there are plenty of unbought Gucci bags out there! Right? Not that Gucci is really my thing, I actually ended up buying mostly pieces of Japanese origin (and my Visa card is still hurting)..

Tōji Temple Flea Market

I just love flea markets! My grandmother had a strong weakness for them and always dragged me along and I guess that managed to rub off on me. I love the thought of buying old things that already have a history. Obviously I had to go when I completely by coincidence found out that Japan's oldest flea market (and one of the largest) takes place on the 21st of every month by the Tōji temple in Kyoto. Unfortunately we had to catch a train to Osaka but I did manage to squeeze in more than an hour (I think I could have spent half a day there, though). Not only could you buy old things like furniture, ceramics, clothes.. there was also food, tools, fabrics.. Highly fascinating and definitely recommendable should you ever happen to be in Kyoto on the 21st of a month.

And this is what I managed to pick up.. Of course at heavy overprice but to my defense I must say that bargaining in Japanese is not really my thing.. (All I managed to learn was the most essential.. Konichiwa (hello), arrigato (thanks), cohi kudasai (coffee, please)).. I bought a children's kimono (or I guess it actually is a yukata? - same genre, less formal) and some old photos..

Before exam madness and fall break I was tagged by Danica of Coccinelle so here we go (I apologize for the delay)..

4 things I did today
- Had coffee with my dad at his office at 7.15am before his work day started (I hardly ever see him anymore)..
- Took advantage of printing facilities there to print out 76 pages on exchange possibilites next year.
- Went to Magasin to browse for magazines and newspapers.. I bought the new Jalouse and the IHT.
- Remembered to water my plants (big deal!)!

4 things on my to-do list
- Look for a job which is relevant to my education.
- Plan a trip to South America next year with one of my best friends.
- Finish packing my suitcase for the weekend where I'm visiting a friend who lives in Odense (I wrote this post on Thursday, actually)..
- Find a good recipe for a cake containing lemon since I'm baking one for a dear friend's birthday next week (any suggestions?)

- Browsing supermarkets.. I can spend hours doing that.. Supermarkets is probably the closest I come to having a fetisch..

- I like to attend random lectures at my university (anything but SPRØK will do)
- When I need to really relax, I bake. I don't feel much like eating it so I give it away usually.
- I like my own company a lot and am not afraid to say that sometimes I actually prefer it.
- I was always fascinated by the sky. When people walk on the street many people look at their feet. Apparently I like to look up instead. And then I love to observe the stars and their constellations.. I'm dreaming of finding something like Soir de Fête's constellations globe.

Adding animals

I already told you about my little zoo but it just keeps and keeps expanding and is actually getting rather large. The first animal I'm introducing to you I realize is.. well.. slightly odd.. It's a rat! His name is Marc Jacobs and me, this world tonight and another friend stole (I prefer to say adopted) him from a halloween setup in a cinema. Less strange and much more adorable is the cardboard zoo calendar I bought in Tokyo. I only just assembled it yesterday and it fits right in here in my flat. Now I just need to figure out names for the animals..

Vertical village

If you've read some of my previous posts concerning architecture, I guess it's really no surprise that this project has caught my attention (and fancy!).. Not only is this to be constructed here in Copenhagen, it's also sufficiently cubic and un-elegant to make my skirt fly up.. What can I say? Quadrilateral shapes and me just have a very fine relationship.. But let's get to the facts, this building will be made up of 60m2 units or "pixels" which will actually be able to be moved around the core of the building which will contain both retail space, offices, a hotel and assumably also some of the most pricey flats of the entire city. Source of inspiration? I'm guessing Tetris!

Breakfast at Tsukiji

There can be good things about jetlag, I have recently discovered. Traveling against time is always more difficult in my opinion and while in Japan I found myself waking up at 4 in the morning no matter when I had gone to sleep, since my inner clock had a hard time adjusting to Tokyo time. I would had have to anyways when going to Tsukiji, though. Tsukiji is a huge wholesale market area which is especially known for its fish market which is the largest in the world. Daily they handle more than 2,000 tons of goodies from the sea but everybody told us that the fun would already be over at around 7am, so we had to leave early. Actually we were there at 5am already and the hectic atmosphere was definitely telling us that all these people had been up for longer than just a while. Everywhere there were men in wellies and blue shirts.. in trucks, on scooters, with trolleys.. busy making the logistics happen. I tell you, never in my life have I seen this many polystyrene boxes before! Once we reached the inner market it was like going to seafood heaven, a complete sensory overload. Stalls offering everything from prawns with turquoise roe, the most beautiful clams, multiple kinds of baby sardines (they looked the same to me, though).. and then there were all those I didn't mention (since I don't know their species, I'm not that much of a seafood expert, my apologies!).. Have a look for yourself though.. Doesn't it look utterly amazing?

..However, the main attraction turned out to be the tuna auction. There were hundreds on them in either frozen or fresh condition, lying on the floor and while a man was auctioning them off, they were drawn on with red marker. Do notice how they cut them open by their tail, I guess it's on of the best place to check their quality? In any case, this was highly fascinating to me.

..and afterwards we enjoyed some of those 200kg-each-tunas in a slightly smaller portion for breakfast!

I couldn't help but think this was kind of funny. Gum Election is a guerilla art project which has managed to spread all over the globe from New York City just since October, encouraging people not only to vote but also not to spit out their chewing gums on the street. Now, personally I don't chew gum but if I did it would be right there on McCains face. Obviously I can't vote either but if you can, make sure to do so!

Now, let's get down to business, lets talk about Japan! And not only do I have the most amazing memories from this country, I also have a laptop full of pictures only waiting to see the light of the virtual world. We traveled around by train which was a fantastic way to see what the country actually looks like. Never in my life, had I imagined the nature to be this beautiful and diverse. It was simply amazing. There's no way that these pictures really could ever do it justice but it's what I managed to capture of it through the windows of the train at very high speed. These are some of the few that turned out well.

Isn't it funny how the best things turn out to be some of the most simple? I think it applies to both outfits and cooking and this dish is an especially great example hereof. When I was in primary school we made this once in cooking class (do notice my childish scribbles on the recipe) and I've cooked it on a regular basis ever since, adding just a few adjustments. The flavours match each other perfectly and on top of it, it's a beautiful dish with great colors.

Grilled tomato bruschetta
Serves 4 as a starter, 2 as an entrée..

4 slices of rustic, Italian bread
4 large, ripe tomatoes
1 teaspoon dried oregano
1 deciliter + a few extra drizzles of good olive oil
2 tablespoons of dark balsamic vinegar
1 teaspoon of muscovado sugar
A few cloves of garlic
1 can of artichoke hearts
Lots of fresh parsley

First, turn on your own on with its grill function at around 200 celcius. Next, half and core the tomatoes and put them into a dish, peel side up. Stir together oregano, oil, vinegar, sugar, salt and pepper and pour the mixture over the tomatos. Afterwards, put the tomatos in the oven for 25-30min and turn them around halfway through as well as pouring some of the lovely marinade over them again. While the tomatoes are in the oven, chop parsley and artichoke hearts roughly. When the tomatoes are finished (they should be soft and almost have collapsed by now), drizzle the slices of bread with a bit of oil and grill them until nice and crisp, should be around 6-8min. When that's done, it's time to assemble it all: first rub the bread slices with the garlic cloves and then put two pieces of grilled tomato on each slice. Then top with artichoke hearts and finish off with parlsey. Bon appétit!

I'm now back from Japan, done with exams and ready to blog! I do realize this blog kind of needs an energy boost and therefore I decided I'm participating in NaBloPoMo.. (anyone else joining in on this?).. So, to kick off this month of daily blogging: an outfit (which I wore earlier this week)! This usually isn't my style but I was in such a girly mood. I've been very into more androgynous clothes lately but sometimes I just need to release the pretty girl inside of me, too.. The skirt, by the way, is from Monoprix's childrens department, which I think I briefly mentioned before.. But I'm off for now.. À demain!

I always thought it was extremely unfair how the start of the semester always collides with the spring/summer fashion weeks. Needless to say, I've been working and studying my butt off this semester but thefashionspot and style have been my favorite procrastination activities. Especially these days where the fashion circus has moved on to Paris, I have a hard time focusing on studies, when I know there are such beautiful collections to discover instead. And yesterday I was simply unable to get my hands down after seeing Ann Demeulemeester's spring collection. Usually her aesthetic is a bit too edgy and masculine for my personal liking but this collection is exactly what I want to wear next spring. It almost reminded me of some past Dries collections as well. The draping and the layers.. The crystal embellishments.. So amazinly pretty. This is definitely my favorite collection so far!

Stolen inspiration

A few days ago I stole something. And I never steal anything! I think it's rather harmless, though. It's a magazine by Danish brand Marc o'Polo (a brand which I know will have quite a high percentage of Danish population cringe just by mentioning its name) which I found in my local sushi take-away. It's free, I think, so I don't really feel bad about it. Oh well. But the reason, that I had to grab this, was the wonderful Charlotte Høyer (CLICK HERE to see more of Charlotte's book, she's truly amazing!) in an editorial shot by Kacper Kazpryk. I was never a huge fan of Marc o'Polo but I think they've nailed this one. Somehow I feel like it reflects the mood in fashion right now very well. Monochrome. Simplistic. Very back to basics. I think I might just have to go into their shop next time I walk by.

I was tagged with the list of habits by lovely blogger Heart in a cage - So let's jump straight to it..

1. Clothes shop. In my dreams, I buy all my clothes at Le Bon Marché. I'd love to be dressed in high-quality garments from the likes of Balenciaga, Marni, Givenchy, Lanvin, etc. In reality, I do that to a certain extent. But the H&M-to-designer ratio is fairly high.
2. Furniture shop. IKEA, definitely! And then I love browse at fleamarkets for unusual and old pieces.
3. Sweet. Ice cream! (my favorite flavours are coconut, white chocolate and banana).. Or really strong and salty liquorice. That's what I'm always missing when I'm away from Denmark.
4. City. Paris! I used to live there and I want to return to live there eventually. I always had something for Singapore, Boston and New York City as well (and I'm planning on going to either of those places to study next year)..
5. Drink. Diet coke is one of my huge weaknesses. But I do drink lots of water, too. Coffee when at school. But there's nothing like a cup of fresh mint tea. I love that.
6. Music. It depends on my state of mind but I'd say my range is pretty wide.. I listen to everything from jazz and classical music to electronica, indie rock and the cheesiest pop music you can imagine. I'd say I enjoy all kinds of music at different times (except for heavy metal, I'm never that angry)..
7. TV-Series. Honestly, I don't really watch TV. CNN is usually always on to break the silence at home but when I actually sit down to watch something it's typical a cooking show or a debate. My TV is not working at the moment so for now I don't watch anything.
8. Film. Among my favorites we have Lost in translation, Amélie, The Science of Sleep + tons of small French productions. I love going to the cinema as well. The last movie I saw was Happy-Go-Lucky. Highly recommendable!
9. Workout. I love to attend classes such as step and body combat at my fitness center. These days I can only squeeze it in once a week. Otherwise I use my bike a lot to get around town. And when I want to clear my mind, I go for a round of golf.
10. Pastries. I hardly ever eat pastries but whenever I'm in France I always allow myself one. I have very fond childhood memories of lazy mornings on our terrasse eating pain aux raisins. Those are SO good.
11 Coffee. YES! In any form and plenty of it, please!

This is... What I want to be when I grow up

I used to have the strangest ideas of what I was supposed to do with my life. The first thing, that I remember I wanted to be, was an astronaut. Space and astronomy was always (and still is) highly interesting to me. The astronaut phase came to an end when I was about 10/11 years, though after I found out how unlikely it was, that is actually going to happen.

It wasn't long after that I picked up my fashion interest. It pretty much came overnight as I started reading Vogue (US) out of boredom on a vacation once. So obviously, I wanted to be just like Mrs. Wintour.

I came to my senses quite quickly, though and changed her and her shitty-quality-paper-magazine-always-featuring-the-same-dull-celebs Vogue in for Madame Roitfeld and her slightly more.. ehm.. daring.. Vogue...

Then I finished high school, moved to Paris and became a fashion celebrity stalker (yes, I snapped those pictures above) and full-time bohemiam which I really wouldn't have had a problem doing for the rest of my life. Somehow my parents managed to drag me back to Denmark and today I honestly don't know what I'm supposed to be. As some of you might know I'm studying economics and business administration these days, which I do find to be interesting and challenging. Where it's going to take me in the end, I have no idea, though and honestly, I don't really mind. In the end, I guess, all I want to be is healthy and happy. All the other things are just minor details.

Because of it's neutral color it'll go with pretty much everything and since it's silk it can be worn during the entire year if you're a little creative with layering. And this was.. an easy one. Whenever I have a free 10 minutes (which I should actually be spending watering my dying plants, washing the dishes or taking down all the painter's tape which is somehow still everywhere to be found in my flat) I like to sit down in my cosiest chair with the paper (that I usually only have time to skim through) and have a good cup of coffee while reading it. It's nothing extravagant but it feels like a luxury these days.

Current obsession: Arranging things by their color

I used to do this with Smarties when I was a child. Lay them all out on the table and arrange them by their color. Then do a few statistics over which colors there were the most and the least. Then eating them in order so that there'd be one of each left in the end. I don't really eat Smarties anymore but I guess I'd do the same thing if I did. Actually, I used to do this with my clothes which were on hangers as well, but my collection of Petit Bateau ts are neatly piled in order of their color still. We all have our peculiarities, right? Anyways, I just noticed it seems especially popular to arrange books by their color. I've seen it lots of places recently. I say, anything goes. It looks awesome, don't you agree?

.. that is Lou Doillon. Honestly, I never cared for her as an actress, a singer or any other thing she pretends to be. But I appreciate her as a beautiful, charismatic woman who knows how to dress herself. And that she does extremely well. Personally, I'm a huge fan of flaunting your assets, knowing what works for you and then sticking to it. And I believe that's something mademoiselle Doillon believes in, too. Her range is pretty wide, though but she's always original and daring in her choices (..a bat as a hair clip and a Hervé Léger bandage dress opted for Snejana Onopkas or extremely confident people, for instance).. In addition, add a hat, a fringe, and a Chanel bag. Stir well. Then you have one piece of irresistably charming and unique francaise.

I feel it coming. Yesterday I wore the outfit above and miraculously I managed to eternalize it just before running to class. Now I realize that it's only a month ago since I posted an outfit with this exact dress. But weather is already so depressing that I need to layer to stay warm. Otherwise, rien de neuf. With the new semester I'm falling into old habits. Like drinking 8 cups of coffee each day to stay concentrated while studying. And sitting up late in front of the laptop. But I'm trying to allocate my hours appropriately, though I only end up getting things done halfway, it seems. Like getting stuff from the drycleaners but having it hang in the hallway for days. Trying to finish decorating the apartment but I just cannot decide on what to hang on my walls. And how. I've been searching for old picture frames at fleamarkets for a while but I also want something else.. something larger.. for the walls like the one in my bedroom (ideas?).. Oh, and one last thing: It is so not fair that fashion weeks are starting now when I'm buried in statistics and financial calculations. My weak character cannot handle it.

Purikura, manga, bento boxes, geishas, karaoke, origami, ryokans.. All things that come to mind when you mention Japan to me. Obviously, I don't know much about the country yet it always fascinated me. Now, I'm in the very lucky position that my dad has given me a trip to Japan this fall and we're leaving in less than two months now. We're visiting Tokyo, Kyoto, Osaka, Takayama and Nikkō and though I do have a few things on my list already, I would love to get some input: What to see? What to eat? What to buy? Any input is greatly appreciated!

ApartmentTherapy ran a small feature about this the other day and I just had to research it a bit further. You already know I have a soft spot for the brutal architecture from the USSR times, so I guess it's no surprise that I love this, too! Apparently, this is part of a public housing project called Sirius, located in one the best neighborhoods in Sydney. Funny, how I again find myself drawn to something which is so not pretty but I just love the concept of the boxes which look as if they're just randomly glued together. I'm wondering what it looks like inside.

I know I promised you a fashion post but truth is that my schedule is packed at the moment and I'm not in the state of mind for creating something 'decent'. I guess because my head is filled with a strange mixture of interior design and statistics, seeing the new semester is coming up and I'm doing all I can to get my apartment ready before just that. Actually I had lined up a post about my recent shopping spree in Monoprix's children's department (seriously, it sounds much worse than it is - I got some great stuff there!) - but as said, my mind is in the state of chaos at the moment, for which I'm also blaming this extremely incoherent post. This is just a random mix of old favorites. Pictures which I can look back at again and again and still feel inspired by.Yet they all have one thing in common: they're all gorgeous females.. I'll be back soon!

Au Marché Provencal

Ok, I think you get it by now. I'm a HUGE francophile. It's in my heart, my blood and every cell of my being. So here you have another post about life at the wonderful Côte d'Azur (more fashion posts coming up très soon I promise). This time it's about my prefered food market in our local area: Marché Forville in the center of Cannes. Every single day people stream to the food court for everything from fruit, vegetables and flowers to local delicacies like fish from the Mediterranean, fresh eggs and the chickens who once produced them, neatly lined up (though still with their heads and feet attached). Then there's the olive oil from the oliviers which you will find aplenty in Provence and of course the tapenade, anchoïade, rouille, aïoli... It's a brilliant place for observing people as well. You will see the old people who spend their afternoons in front of l'hôtel de ville drinking their pastis and playing boules, the best chefs in the restaurant business (I saw that two-star Michelin restaurant l'Oasis had brought their little cart to market this morning as well) and everybody in between. But enough talking, these pictures speak for themselves. Really, aren't those artichokes in the first picture some of the most beautiful things?

WhywhyWHY is it so hard to take pictures of yourself? I'm so bad at it and I always need something like 50 tries before I get one which is just fairly decent. Where to place your feet, your hands, your head.. It's a study in itself really. How do you guys do it?

But on topic - meaning the outfit - the Marc Jacobs by Føtex jelly flats saved my ass today (I purchased the grey-ish transparent ones as well as they were marked down to a mere 10dkk a few weeks ago). The rain is coming down brutally and my accountancy book is not feeling particularly great, neither is my hair, after sprinting less than a kilometer to the uni librairy in the pouring rain (after deciding it wouldn't stop any time soon. It still hasn't). Good thing they are well-armed with lots of steaming hot chocolate at school.

It's been a wonderful vacation. I just love Provence. There's something from each and every of your senses there. Me and my friends spent a magnificent day in Nice, walking around the old town. Watching the old buildings, going to the fleamarket, shopping in random, small shops. We bought everything from fresh, colorful fruit to the most delicious cookies I've ever tasted. It's days like these that keep you going on days when the rain is coming down heavy and you're stuck at the university librairy with only 3 days until an exam and you're only halfway through curriculum. Like tomorrow.

The celebrity circus has finally left town. It's again possible to go to a café in the city center and not have a hard time finding a table. I still have a hard time believing that 55.000 foreigners come her for fashion week alone, as I always thought our fashion week to be rather.. ehm.. mediocre. Do you keep a fashion scrapbook? I do! And I have been pretty much since I found interest in fashion at the age of 12, when I started reading fashion magazines out of boredom, when I was on vacation with my parents. Of course there are the magazines that are simply too beautiful to cut up (Vogue UK, Another Magazine, Self Service, Dansk, etc. are all neatly piled) but in general I find that this is a great way to keep the parts of the magazines that I love.. (I cut out entire pages and store them as well).. But the scrapbook itself.. It's a never-ending project. Though I have had it for years, I hardly have one page which is entirely full as you can tell. But I guess that's part of the charm. What I love the most about it, is to see how my style and taste have evolved over time. In some way I guess that I still appreciate all the pieces in the book however these last few years my style has become much less colorful and quirky.. Anyways, these are a few selected pages.. I'm always up for showing a bit of leg. I mean, if you got it, flaunt it.. right? I'd like to think this can be done in a tasteful and not-tacky way, though. During winter black tights are extremely essential for me since I was always a dress-y kind of girl as well. The look that I'm usually opting for is understated without too many colors. Instead I like to mix materials and creating beautiful silhouettes by keeping to muted colors and statement shoes.. Anyways, these are some of my sources of inspiration.. quite a mixed bunch.. but they're all getting leggy with it!..

..Hektor the rip-off cat.. He set me back 10ddk in discount supermarket Netto. My mom hates him. She thinks he's ugly. She once 'accidently' tried to throw him out with some old papers, haha..

This one I found digging through the piles of magazines that I for unknown reasons decided to drag along to my new flat located on the 4th floor (the removers weren't exactly thrilled at the sight of my Vogue UK chair). Posting outfits wasn't really my first intention with this blog, but this is in honour of Tine. Obviously a lot of thought didn't go into this outfit, but at the moment I just feel like wearing things that aren't too complicated. The dress is an extremely old H&M piece, the gold flats are the ones that the new Repetto acquisitions theoretically are substituting.. they're from French Koah and some of the best shoes I've ever owned. I don't think I'll ever bring myself to throw them out.

Though I openly admit to playing favorites in my wardrobe, I always welcome more pieces with open arms. And yesterday I received the Acne top it seems everybody around the Danish blogosphere has been ordering this past week. I did know that it a bit ran big but I was almost drowning in the sz 36. I doubt the 34 would even fit, so it's going back for sure. So to comfort myself I went shopping today, again. First I went fleamarket-ing and came back with an adorable navy H&M dress with stars on it. And after a tip from Ditte I went to Danish supermarket chain Føtex to pick up these Marc Jacobs rip-offs, which set me back a mere 49dkk. It seems I've been bit by a shopping bug but I guess as long as I keep my shopping in the discount category it should be alright (good thing somebody pressed buy-it-now on the Balenciaga Day I've been watching on eBay)..

Oh, and I got a new haircut today as well! Ever since I saw Anna Selezneva in August's French Vogue (which is less than a week ago, haha), I've been thinking of having it cut shoulder length-ish and letting my bangs grow out (this post really exposes my copycat tendencies, eh). In any case, I'm very pleased with the result.

I stumbled across this photographer's work in this week's French Elle (I think. There are so many special editions published it's almost impossible to tell which are what. It was the one with the Angelina Jolie cover, in any case) and was instantly smitten with the editorial Vacances Romance, because of its soft lighting and feminine styling. After a bit of online investigation I found the photographer's portfolio and though I adore the most of his work, I was instantly particularly taken with this editorial from Double featuring Julia Dunstall. There is something about old Soviet architecture that makes me feel the same way, as catholic cathedrals do. The latter were always build with the intention of making the person feel small compared to the size that God has. I guess when it comes to this sort of architecture, it's the same case, only the totalitarian system substitutes God.

A couple of years ago French 1-euro magazine Citizen K ran a feature on architecture from the USSR times and it left me in awe. Not only because of the before-mentioned feeling it seems to evoke in me, but it genuinely surprised me how playful some of the architects have been during these depressing times. The odd and the eccentric qualities that these buildings hold are simply breathtaking to me. Combined with a sense of futurism with a heavy and solid feel, which are characeristic for buildings from the Soviet-era, it makes for very interesting architecture . The blend of brutalism and creativity is strangely appealing. It almost seems as if some of these buildings just landed from outer space in an innocent landscape. Anyways, I did a lot of research for this post and had a hard time deciding which pictures to show.. Well, these are the selected few. I hope you enjoy them.

I read all of those magazines yesterday! I've left Provence for now (fortunately going back in mid-August) and had the pleasure of having those publications as travel companions on that long and tedious journey with a lengthy stopover in the exotic Düsseldorf. Well, it wasn't so bad. I actually had the largest cappucino I've ever seen in that airport and the waiter who served me was awfully cute as well. Anyways, I'm glad to be home. Reunited with my camera and lovely flat. Today I've just enjoyed my own company (I think I've parent-OD'ed).. taking my time to settle back in, doing some grocery shopping, going to the post office, cleaning, relaxing.. and taking pictures of my new purchases! So here goes:

I've strayed off la route du mimosa for a few days as you might have noticed. In the most literal of ways as well. You see, my mom is quite ill at the moment. She developed some sort of allergy to many things you really can't avoid in a normal everyday life (such as anything with perfume, exhaust from cars or anything fuel-driven, etc.). So my dad and I decided to take her up the mountains for some fresh air for a while. And believe me, we went far-far-faaaar away. To a small village, that during winter turns into a busy ski district, called Isola 2000.

And I should add that, during summer, absolutely nothing happens. So I guess you can say I went cold turkey on normal life. Well, sometimes it's nice to just turn of your cell, shut down your computer and enjoy some peace and quiet. So that's what we did. We went hiking. We played boules. I went horseback riding. We ate plenty of good and rustic mountain food (tartiflette, raclette, fondue.. words don't describe the fear I have of trying on my new sz. 26 Acne jeans I somehow managed to squeeze into last week).

The most awesome of all was the hiking trips we had. We went to discover parts of the Mercantour national park. Lots of beautiful flowers, summerbirds, dears-- and old blockhouses (way back from WWI, my history-savvy dad informed me). All simply amazing. I'm still kicking myself so hard that I forgot my camera.

I bought a straw hat like this the other day. Truth is that I'm not really a hat person at all. It's the same thing with sunglasses. I feel pretentious and out of place whenever I wear it + I am completely incapable of judging whether or not it suits me. In these ultra sunny conditions however there's not so much of a choice so off I went, down in our little village to have a look at the options. Turns out this sort of hat was the least ugly I could get my hands on seeing the alternatives were bright pink/loaded with flowers/trucker cap with print.

And after all, here after a few days, I think it's starting to grow on me. Even though this one is made of straw, it reminds me of the hat that the girl in "l'Amant"/"the Lover" wears all the time.. (originally a book by Marguerite Duras which I first read when I studied at Sorbonne. Later I bought the DVD since I found it in a secondhand store for 10dkk. Not so fond of the movie but the girl played by Jane March is drop dead gorgeous and worth seeing the movie for alone). Paired with a light dress and braids it's actually quite a perfect summer look. Simple, effortless.

Actually, I find this look can actually be kind of adorable. I did some further research and found some lovely ways to do this look. Even though many of the looks at Karen Walker's spring/summer '08 collection seems a bit too styled or done (if one could say that), I find the look on Alison Nix to be rather cute in its own way (can't imagine anyone wearing this off the runway, though).. then the girl on the bike seems to be interpreting the look in a way so it actually becomes wearable. And Michelle Williams take on the hat is rather loveable as well. Simple and fresh. So I might just be able to give this hat a second chance at life even when the sun goes away.

Old but not obsolete

It's funny how some brands have their way of being so contemporary and defining for the exact times we're living in that their direction for a specific season will seem dated and almost make you cringe the next. I guess 'visionary' brands such as Prada and Balenciaga can be put in this box (honestly, how do you feel about furry-looking tie-dye and velvet school boy blazers today? Yes. I figured).

But a label that I don't find belong in this before-mentioned box is Chloé (at least not under artistic direction of either Stella McCartney or Phoebe Philo - today Chloé is a whole different story). Personally I find it quite interesting how these advertisements from spring/summer '02 don't really look dated at all in spite of their age. Or am I just lost in time? In any case, I love it. Still.

If it ain't broke, don't fix it! ... right? Personally, I'm a strong believer in this statement. Especially when it comes to things I love. Like Orangina. Don't even get me started on how wrong it is to pour this lovely drink into plastic bottles or even worse, cans! It's comparable to murder almost. There's really only one true way to have an Orangina: from it's original glass bottle!

So this is the cool part: how to take great use of these Orangina bottles. I accidently stumbled across this Orangina chandelier on Flickr. How awesome is that?!

And since this blog entry is already turning out slightly different from that I had originally intended it to, I figured might as well go all out. So here you have it: what I also found in my picture search for Orangina. A bear. A winking bear, licking it's mouth in a disturbingly sexy way. And for those of you who don't understand French: well, the text say naturally juicy. (And there's a video, too. Enter at own risk! It's almost like soft porn). Funny how this post is bringing new dimensions to the stylists version of the same look. Or. No. Lame excuse for posting about ice-melting hot bears with sixpacks. But hey, it's mimosa coloured. Yet another 'model-turned-style-icon'

The 'model-turned-actress' term is so over if you ask me! It seems that the 'model-turned-style-icon' (sorry, i just love using dashes/hyphens and will do it on almost any occasion) is so much more realistic and relevant for the times we're living in right now (because honestly, how many of those 'models-turned-actresses' actually turned out good as well?) And I must say that I find it quite interesting and almost a bit of a mystery to me that so many models are so incredibly well-dressed. One of the greatest style icons of all time is without a doubt Kate Moss and fellow colleagues such as Milla Jovovich and Helena Christensen are favorites among many people as well. More current models such as Irina Lazareanu, Iekeline Stange, Natasha Poly and Agyness Deyn are also all looked upon as original style icons. I don't know if it is because of their constant exposure to fashion or the fact that they are given so many fantastic pieces because of their profession.. or maybe that's just the way they really are? .. Hm. Any thoughts?

But on topic: a constant source of inspiration for me is model Anouck Lepère. Not only is she probably one of the most beautiful women I can think of, but she has really great sense of dressing herself as well. I love how she often makes quite bold fashion choices (such as those widescreen sunglasses, the gold Prada skirt, mixing floral mini dress with bright red tights..), yet somehow she manages to pull it off and make it her own. Especially the four outfits below had (and still have) me feeling weak in my knees..

And I thought that this was going to be a really calm summer at home. I guess not. My dad got some sort of emergency at his work (recession really creating trouble for Danish banks already) and need to postpone his vacation so I'm taking over his plane ticket. So, tomorrow morning I'll be on an airplane to Provence. La Napoule, to be exact, where my parents have had their summer house since I was born. I used to go there at least every summer in my childhood years so it was always like a second home to me and some of my happiest memories are from that little village outside of Cannes, just by the beach. I've only been there outside of tourist season the past two years and as much as I love the sense of abandoned village I cannot wait to experience what it's like to be there when it's buzzing of life.

Really, all vacations should be like these.. with long walks on the beach, relaxing in the shadows by the pool, eating fresh seafood and soupe de poisson (acompanied by LOTS of rouille, s'il vous plaît!), watching the old men play petanque at the boulodrôme, going to the farmer's market in the early morning, having pain aux raisins for breakfast while sipping coffee and reading Nice Matin, sitting on the rocks at the harbor watching the private jets land and take off, buying groceries and other useless stuff in Géant (mon hypermarché préféré). Oh, and of course I'm also hitting the sales in Cannes, Nice and Monaco. My wardrobe could need some French additions in form of Comptoir de Cotonniers, Sandro and Isabel Marant (oh please, let there be some of that heavenly s/s08 collection be left for me!)..

A new face

I used to be really into models. I guess I still am, sort of, but I don't really keep up with all the new faces anymore. Too time consuming. But from time to time I do to lurk on agency websites, though. Like tonight. I stumbled across these lovely photos from 2PM's 'Who Are We' promo book. The girl is Vendela and I immediately fell in love with her pictures. They're cheeky and summery but still simple and just plain beautiful.

Roskilde is over. I'm back. But in a sort of zombie state, unable to do anything constructive. For now all I've been doing is sleeping, eating and wandering around the city doing random shopping. As you can tell, extremely random. A necklace from H&M's children's department, a relaxing moisturizer (had to use a gift card), liquorice pastils and herbal tea. Now taking care of my extremely sore throat with the latter two. I'll be back when my mind is less foggy.

Festival chic

Roskilde is just around the corner! Actually warm-up started today and with names like Radiohead, Cat Power, Kate Nash, José Gonzalez, etc in the line-up, I'm sure to be found at the festival next week (not so fond of the simple living that comes with festivals, so I'm skipping the warm-up. I just went to set up my tent and get my bracelet today - I'm boring, I know ...).

Anyways, I always find it quite interesting to see what people wear to events like these. I've been attending Roskilde since 2005 - last year being the exception, thank god! - and I must say that there's a tendency towards people caring more and more about how they look. And of course, when you have people such as Kate Moss, Sienna Miller and Agyness Deyn attending festivals such as Glastonbury and Coachella it's easy to get inspired. It's no secret that Hunter wellies are the wellies to be seen in just as Minnetonka boots, waistcoats, and PVC leggings also hit it big time - not only on festival grounds but in general (even on sunny days I see multiple girls trotting around in the hideous things Hunters are in CPH)..

Well, that's the celeb side of it.. So, what do normal human beings (meaning people that don't go home to get a hot shower every night) do. Well, I picked out some stylish people from last year's festival to demonstrate:

The musts on any somewhat stylish person's packing list seem to be: Rainboots (obviously), black tights/ leggings, parka coats, jeans, tanks and basic dresses. These are great festival stables that I will be bringing myself.. To make your outfit interesting a colorful/ patterned scarf, a hat or funky sunglasses seems to be the way to go. Besides, this year I'm expecting to be seeing plenty of gladiators - I know I will be bringing mine to match the floaty dresses and short denim shorts. Now, just cross your fingers that the weather will be good this year!

I've always been a huge fan of Miu Miu (and Prada) ads but I think this one might be one of my favorites for them ever to publish. The combination of minimal styling, black/white photos + a young Angela Lindvall is just divine. No muss, no fuss - Isn't it just true that simplest and least complicated things turn out to be the best? I certainly think so.

Extremely random post but I had to blog about this as it had me laughing out loud when I first saw this earlier. Monsieur Lagerfeld dressed in bright yellow - I don't think anyone had seen this coming. FYI, it's an ad by the traffic department of the French government. It goes something like this: 'It's yellow, it's ugly, it goes with nothing but it can save a life'. I'm not sure I quite agree (it'd be excellent styled with this season's gladiators, non?) and I must say, if it's good enough for Karl, it's good enough for me, too.

The Denim Jacket - Anno 2008

It's been much to my enjoyment seeing that the denim jacket is making a comeback in fashion. Strolling around Copenhagen today I saw more than a handful of girls sporting them - Some outcomes definitely more lucky than others, but I always found myself strangely drawn to them.

My first encounter with the revival of this 90's trend was during London Spring/Summer 2008 fashion week. Christopher Kane had his models walking down the runway in ripped denim pieces styled with snake-printed shirts and a shitload of ruffles. The collection got mixed reviews - Was this visionary or just dated? A TFS'er described the collection to be 'just like a car crash - and i can't stop watching it'. That's exactly how I felt. Surely this was not a 'pretty' collection like the ones I'm usually drawn to and I had a hard time envisioning myself in such a piece.

However, it did not take long for the Prada syndrome to hit and already in early 2008 I found myself longing for a jean jacket - a piece of clothing I had detested just a few months back. I guess this was only a result of massive overexposure. Kane might have been the front runner with this trend but soon after it popped up plenty of other places. For instance at Alexander Wang:

And of course a trend wouldn't be a trend without a celebrity following:

I finally succumbed to the trend in February. And I never looked back though most of my friends still think my jean jacket is absolutely hideous and brings back awful fashion memories of the 1990's. Well, at least will not be like clones, right? Below, pictures of 'real' people interpreting the denim jacket - and in my eyes, making it contemporary and appropriate for the times we're living in now.

And of course I will not leave you without showing my own tries with stonewashed denim. I must say, we're getting better and better friends by the day.

And I guess the correct ending to this story would be 'and they lived happily ever after'... But I guess it's more realistic to say 'until next season when I all of sudden will find myself dressed in black lace only in spite of a life-long aversion'. However, until then, I'd love to hear your thoughts about denim jackets..

I do realize that the look of model Hanne-Gaby Odiele might be an acquired taste. Her personal style, on the other hand, is easily lovable. I simply adore how she's mixing unusual yet fabulous designer pieces (such as the multicolor sequined Dries ss07 bag, the striped fw07 Balenciaga blazer, and the brown Marni ss07 bag here shown) with vintage pieces. It fits her quirky appeal superbly.

Who needs a boy anyways when you have good friends, good food and really, really fabulous shoes?

I just finished my last exam today - which is also why I haven't been blogging in the past week or so - and got a fantastic grade (sitting 24/7 in the library this past week did pay off). So after celebrating that exams are finished and we're out for the summer, my friends from school and I celebrated with ice cream. Yes, that's how childish we are. But I decided to treat myself to something a bit extra, seeing I had a pre-sale invitation from http://www.youheshe.com/ in my mailbox today. Result: these lovely flats from Maloles. I'm sure they'll be on my feet all summer.

Unfortunately all apartments do not! I should start by telling you guys that at the moment - apart from pretending that I'm studying for exams, working on my so far non-existing tan in the fantastic weather and eating (buckets of) ice cream for every meal - I am moving. I lived in my current apartment since September when I returned from Paris and all along I knew it was only a temporary apartment. However, this time around I'm moving in to something that will actually be mine so it makes a bit more purpose to put a lot of effort into decorating it and making it a place that reflects me. So, I guess one could say that now, all posibilities are in front of me though there will be some tough decisions. But planning what my apartment should look like has slowly but steadily dragged me into the blogosphere of interior design. Great, another way to procastinate studying! As earlier said, I'm not into romantic interior design but this handful of pictures below all have something about them and inspired me. I hope you enjoy them, too.

This is one of my long-time favorite editorials. And I still wonder how it's possible for it to come out of Denmark. It dates all the way back to 2004 where it was published in Costume - a rather mediocre fashion mag. But there's something about this set of pictures I just love. The combination of romantic summer atmosphere, quirky styling and Lauren Serge (who used to be one of my favorite models) creates something that is extremely lovable and inspirational to me.
